I’m gonna be honest with you. This little sewing project almost didn’t happen. I was feeling tired and blogged out…and I wasn’t looking forward to convincing Harper to let me take photos. But one Sunday afternoon, I had this feeling that the kids might take an unusually long nap. So, instead of heading to the fabric store, I grabbed something that had been in my stash for ages and started cutting. No frills here – just the basic Mimi by Filles a Maman.
I am sooooo glad I did. Because, um, this is one of my favorite things I’ve sewn for Harper! The fit is so modern and perfect – roomy but not baggy or unkempt. It’s such a unique style, and Harper was excited to wear it.
I also was ecstatic that I finished it completely during one naptime. Like I said – no frills. I did the most basic version and even used some cord elastic for the button loop (instead of a fabric tube). I also didn’t really read the instructions, but that was just fine since this pattern is easy-peasy.
The designer, Mel, really nailed this one. I just adore it. In fact, I think I might even use this pattern to make some basic tees (without the neckline notch). Yes, I like it that much. The fit is spot on (I made a 3 which is a little big as expected – but will be perfect in a couple months), and it has just enough detail to make it interesting but not fussy.
Perfect.
And as for this photo shoot…um, yeah! I am getting better, I think. I’m really pleased with how these photos turned out. I’m getting better at picking out the lighting and positioning myself to take the best shots. These were taken at the Neff’s Canyon trailhead in Olympus Cove near Salt Lake City.
