For my entry into the blog tour, I decided to sew the Lady Skater Dress. I’ve made one of these before, but I wanted to try again with the cap sleeves and without a nursing modification. Yeaaaahhh!! No more nursing for me! For now anyway…muwahahaha.

This fabric is an exquisitely soft French terry purchased from A Fashionable Stitch. Even though it’s lightweight and breezy, it’s completely opaque because of the little loops on the back. I absolutely love it. And don’t YOU love my purplish-white legs? This is why they pretty much never see the light of day. (And so the cycle continues.)

Toddler photo bomb!! This dress is perfect for a mommy like me because it has plenty of coverage for playdates and bending over in my van to change poopy butts. I’m sure I’ll get a ton of wear this summer. _DSC0288-001

I sewed the size 4, and my measurements are about 34-30-37. It seems they change every single time I post about something I’ve sewn for myself since, you know, that whole having-a-baby thing and whatever…but my waist seems to stay the same. Bah. Perhaps I will get on the rowing machine and start Pilates again at some point. Until then, I will have a size 10 waist on my size 2-4 body!

The only thing I might change about this dress now that it’s sewn up is to serge out the clear elastic at the waistline. I dunno…I find it itchy. And it makes the waist a little too tight on me (see above about waist problem). I don’t think it will compromise the dress though since I’ve made other similar styles without it.

I heard of the Pattern Parcel and I think it’s a great initiative. Just another way our community is supporting each other!

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

I know – I just love how our little community pulls together on initiatives like this! Brilliant!

love it!! thanks for posting about PPP :) XO

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

My pleasure, Rachael! Thanks for having me and for everything you do! You are an inspiration to this community!

  • Jenya

The dress looks lovely on you Lauren :) I am very tempted to get this pattern :)

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

You should! I have used it a couple times and just love it.

  • Deb Cameron

Wow, where do you find the time Lauren? It looks amazing BTW :-)

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Deb – between 9pm and 1am. No, really…my kids go to preschool three days a week so I can work and keep house and just have some “me time.” I can’t complain because they are also amazing sleepers. The little guy goes down without a fight around 6:30pm, and the big one by 8. And they sleep straight through until 7am most days. :)

  • Jill @ Made with Moxie

Just adorable! Babies just wreck our bodies, eh? At least we all can sew up and modify dresses as we need them. :) Thanks for sewing for us!

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Yes, they do!!! Oh well…they are cute. I suppose I’ll get over it. Or have surgery. LOL!

  • Monica Swift

Looks great…and I agree…this is the perfect throw on and run around being a mom kind of dress. The bending over thing is a good test, ha. I also like that you give your measurements, I think I’ll start doing that, too. It should be it’s own movement. Although I have a feeling mine would be different every time, too….

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

I know, right?? Measurements for everyone! (Please?)

  • http://girlsinthegarden.blogspot.com/ Lori

I love that dress on you, perfect style and fabric.

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Thank you so much, Lori! I do love it!

  • Charity

That looks really cute on you! The perfect pattern parcel is a really good idea, although I tend to make my own patterns rather than buying them. =)

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Isn’t it so great? Ahhh, I wish I had time to make ALL my own patterns. Maybe after this course is done…

  • http://www.thingsforboys.com/ abby @ thingsforboys

Great dress! Very flattering on you.
