Bohemian Babydoll Sewing Pattern by Elegance & Elephants

The Bohemian Babydoll sewing pattern by Elegance & Elephants can be summed up in one word: gorgeous.

I’m not just saying that. This little dress seems like it was made for Harper. You can tell from the photos that she loves wearing it, and I love seeing her in it. Even her daddy thought it was precious (and he’s often indifferent to her fashion choices).

I’m going to tell you all about it, but in case you want to go ahead and buy it, you can get it in the Elegance and Elephant Shop here.

And yes, that is an affiliate link, but I will never tell you guys to buy a pattern that I wouldn’t recommend anyway. For realz, this one is good.

The pattern itself went together wonderfully. I chose a size 2 after carefully checking the size chart because that’s what Harper normally wears. It fits perfectly, and she is about 20″ in the chest and 35″ tall. The pattern pieces were professionally graded and marked well to make cutting and sewing the pieces together a breeze.

As you can see, I used some Liberty of London Tana Lawn that I had left over from my Wiksten Tova you can see here. This was kind of crazy for me since I am a big muslin maker and…well…$35/yard fabric and all…but hey, sometimes I live dangerously.

Before cutting the front piece, I cut a rectangle of fabric a little wider than the pattern piece and put some pin tucks down the center front. I framed those with some lace I bought at Jo-Ann. I love the effect this has on the overall look.

The only changes I made to the construction of the dress itself were that 1) I used bias tape around the armholes/neck opening and 2) I did a narrow hem at the bottom instead of facings because I didn’t have enough fabric I am lazy. I just couldn’t seem to wrap my head around the prescribed finishing technique for the armholes/neck opening, but that is my own fault for being a bit scatterbrained. It happens.

As for the photos, we took these in my new favorite location: Neff’s Canyon in Olympus Cove overlooking Salt Lake City. It’s perfect because there are lots of trees to filter the sun, and we can go earlier than the typical golden hour since it’s kind of down in a hole. The sun sets a little earlier in the canyon, so I think we were able to snap these around 6:30pm instead of my usual 8-ish.

I can’t wait to make more of these in the tunic length and maybe some in a longer length for more booty coverage. I love this length on Harper, but she definitely needs some shorties underneath since she has zero concept of modesty. But what 3-year-old does, right?

Bottom line: I couldn’t be happier with this pattern and dress and highly recommend it. So visit the Elegance and Elephants Shop and get sewing!
