Out & About Dress by Sew Caroline - Pattern Review and Giveaway!

I recently had the pleasure of testing Sew Caroline’s Out & About Dress sewing pattern, and wow - Caroline has done such a great job with her first pattern! I love that more an more designers are releasing patterns for knit fabric, and this one didn’t disappoint.

Out & About Dress by Sew Caroline - Sewn by Lauren Dahl

The dress features super simple construction, long/half sleeves options, short/maxi length options and optional side pockets. It only took me an hour or two to put this entire dress together (including piecing the pattern/tracing), so it’s a perfect evening or weekend project. Caroline’s instructions are clear and easy-to-follow, and the pieces are drafted professionally and accurately.

The fabric was something I purchased on my recent L.A. Fashion District shopping trip. It’s an amazingly soft 4-way stretch, and I LIVE in it! The first day I wore this, I didn’t take it off until I got into bed. That’s a big deal for me because I usually strip down to sweats the minute I walk into my house every day.

Do you like my Ikea photo styling? Ha! I figured…hey…it’s called the Out & About Dress…so why not wear it out and about?! And that’s what I did. I love wearing a cardigan and a belt with it. Still fabulously comfortable but put together, too.

I’ve never sewn with knits, but this seems like a good starter project. Thanks!

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Yes, it would be a perfect starter project! I used to never sew with knits, and now I use them more than wovens. You can do it!

  • Carrie Britt

Did you need to lengthen the bodice any? You look like you are a bit taller than some of the testers. Just wondering because I am 5’8″, and I sometimes do need to do so.

    • http://www.laurendahl.com/ Lauren Dahl

Carrie - I didn’t but you certainly could. I am 5’6″ with a longish yorso.

      • Carrie Britt

        Thanks a bunch!
